Springtime "library" cards and a reader contest!

Groundhog Day is just around the corner and I am woefully wishing for an early spring. I have started to think of winter as a bad library customer who has loaned springtime for way too long. I realize there is still a lot of time between now and March 20 but I would like springtime back ASAP. This feeling led me to an idea for some new cards . . .

Thanks to my husband and his school, I am the lucky recipient of a box of vintage library cards. Using my stamps and a calligraphy pen, I turned these blank library cards into decorative note cards with my winter/spring idea. In my cards, "springtime" is a book title written by four different authors: Persephone, Mr. Robin, Mrs. Crocus, and Peter Rabbit (all things I think about when I think of spring). The book has been taken out by "winter" and is due back ASAP. Each library card has been glued to a folded, blank white card. I photographed these cards in my backyard, in the snow.

Now for the contest information:
I made 2 sets of 4 cards and I am giving one set away to a lucky reader! To enter the drawing, leave a comment on this blog entry with a note about your favorite season of the year. The contest will end at noon on Friday, February 4. I'll draw a name at the end of the week and will be in touch for the winner's mailing information. Don't forget to leave your email in the comment if I don't already have your contact information!

  1. I am looking forward to Spring this year because I'm taking a European vacation with my love and I'll get to see blooming tulips in Holland!

I like summer best because boat drinks are appropriate and my favorite TV show is on. It's also as far away from winter as possible.

Fall is my favorite for sure! The colors of the trees and all the fun pumpkin food items. Yum! Love it!

these are so sweet, katie! fall is my favorite season. the relief from the heat and humidity, breaking out the sweaters, picking pumpkins and baking and preparing for holidays - it's all so splendid! but i will say that i'm really looking forward to spring at this point; winter's been a doozy this year!

I love Autumn! Unfortunately we don't get much of an Autumn here in Georgia but it makes me miss New England and appreciate that part of the country during the fall months.

I love them all! Each season has its special moments that make my heart sing! The cold clear winter day when the sky is achingly bright blue and the snow sparkles in the sunshine; the first blossoms of spring and the bird songs that announce its arrival; long walks on the beach and garden produce, eaten warm from the garden; crackling crisp leaves and the glorious colors of fall.

  8. I love these! I love fall with the crackling of leaves underfoot and the smell of the first fire in the wood stove. It seems a distant memory now. Looking forward to the signs of new life that spring brings but I'll take all this snow over a brown winter any day.

  9. As a good New England girl, I kind of have to love them all at least just a little bit (though winter, not so much right now! It has definitely overstayed its welcome.) I have to say fall... crisp days, cool nights, brilliant sunshine, changing leaves, and of course, field hockey! Nothing beats a good summer day at the beach, though, as long as the horseflies stay away and there is a nice ocean breeze. Such a cute idea, as always!
